2023 – THREE PILLARS TO SUCCESSFULLY SAVING DOG LIVES

Our first pillar is our very efficient and experienced adoption coordinator Louise, founder Ruth and the rest of our team, who receive dogs continually, coordinate foster as needed and place dogs for trial adoption quickly and effectively. Secondly, we are able to do this because we have potential adopters like you fill out applications ahead of time, making us ready to make great matches rapidly. This means we post some dogs on our Facebook page and generally not here. WE ARE ALSO ABLE TO DO THIS BECAUSE OF OUR FOSTER HOME VOLUNTEER NETWORK. PLEASE GIVE FOSTERING A TRY – IT IS CRITICAL TO SAVING DOGS’ LIVES. ALSO, YOU CAN DONATE TO HELP US WITH THE MANY EXPENSES OF SAVING THESE VULNERABLE SOULS.

Fill out an application! Having an approved app on file will mean the fastest match possible for your trial adoption 🙂

And see below (and our Happy Tails page) for some of our countless successes!!!

WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER ‘PARENTS’!!!

PLEASE HELP!

“Foster love” that wonderful people like you provide is the key to being able to save dog lives.

If we do not have enough caring people to open their hearts and homes to these dogs, dogs may be turned away,  surrendered to shelters, dropped off in fiels, thoughtlessly given away to any taker (maybe a breeder/puppy mill front) or sold for profit to an uncaring buyer or incapable owner.

You can make an enormous difference in the world by fostering a homeless soul for a few weeks or a few months, while other members on the Minpinerie volunteer team work tirelessly at finding these dogs permanent homes.

As a doggie foster parent, you will feed, exercise, protect, train, love and cuddle a beautiful and vulnerable little homeless dog. Minpinerie is responsible for all the dog’s veterinary expenses. IF you have the time and patience, you are encouraged to teach the dog good behavior and commands, but most of our dogs, unless very young, already have these.

In general, Minpinerie rescues miniature pinschers and minpin/mixes, but also other small dogs in need, as a rule under twenty pounds (chis, chi mixes, poodle/mix, terriers, etc).

Be prepared to fall in love!!
All the other cats/dogs in the home must be fixed and up-to-date with shots. In the case of very small dogs, there must be no children under 10 because they can easily injure a dog by dropping or squashing him.

Expect to feel so good and accomplished as your foster leaves to join her new family. It can be hard, but the whole team along with all the other Fosters are here to support you, and consider that there will unfortunately always be another furry face waiting for your help!

BONUS: Minpinerie will give foster parents “first dibs” on adopting their foster dog!!!

Please consider becoming a valued part of our important team to help a dog in need. THANK YOU!

Fill out the application on our website at https://www.minpinerie.ca or contact Louise at 613-260-9707 or loulouonline@rogers.com.

We hear : If I could I would save them all!, Here’s your chance. By saving one, you can help save many.

Please share with friends and family.

Rainbow Bridge

Nunu – adopted by Minpinerie adoption coordinator Louise. “Beautiful 14 yr old Nunu had been with me for almost 7 years. Considered unadoptable because of her attitude and non-stop barking. To me, her “attitude” was part of her charm: 50%bully, 50%hussy! What can i say?: they were right about the barking!!! She was much loved. Nunu did not so much go for walks, as she did “toddling dog-threatening expeditions.”  I will miss her nub tail wagging, which involved her entire rear end moving with delight. Another angel joins our Minpinerie family in Dog Heaven. Nunu will surely and loudly let everybody know there is a new boss in town when she gets there. Her fur sister Molly and her mom Louise will miss her terribly. Here is a photo of her when she was about 8 or 9 and one from last year all tucked in her little bed. (this is really how she slept most of the time!) Sweet forever dreams, pretty girl!”

Zappa – Jen and Russ lost Zappa in Nov 2018. “He was a huge fighter, even with his bad heart murmur…He was a fantastic addition to our household (was named Dax when he was with you – April 2015).  Thank you so much for allowing us to have him for his last days. His spunky-ness and energy will truly be missed in our home ❤️” (Thank you Jen and Russ for taking this dog for the last years of his life.)

dory 2

Dory passed on in August 2018. Rebecca says “Last year I was very blessed to be able adopt Dory, formerly Mattie on a chance from your rescue. With a breaking heart I must relay she passed away from sudden heart failure. We had a wonderful year and three months and I am devistated by her loss. She was a joyful little bundle of fur and spunky bark. I wanted to let you know, because if not for your rescue I wouldn’t have been gifted with the opportunity to take her into my life and experience the unconditional love and positivity she bestowed on everyone. She is so dearly missed.

LINUS

Linus passed away in August 2017. Susan says “I adopted one of your dogs about 6 years ago. Linus had diabetes. Well, six years later little Linus had to be put down on August 8th. He was totally blind and totally deaf. However, he was the light of my life. This dog made every day a joy for my husband and I. He didn’t lick, didn’t bite or bark.  Every vet told me that they had never seen a better minpin.  At this time my heart is breaking and I would like to ask should you every come across another Linus would you please let me know. My life is empty and my husband and I are lost without him. Please keep me in mind if you think you would have a good match for us.”

Louie

dog

Louie was adopted by Nancy Thompson.  “Thank you Louise for finding Lou for me.  A rough beginning in Louie’s life. He was tied on a balcony then he went to a couple of homes, then turned into the shelter.  Louie has had a tough time, but he’s my heart dog. When we picked him up, we drove to gas station and Louie cried when I stepped out of the car.  He acted like I had been his owner all his life.  Lou is so loving and my wonderful heart dog. Thank you everyone at Minpinerie. He’s as happy as I am to be here in his forever home.”

Lilly was adopted by Jaimee and her family in December 2018! Congrats to Lilly!!!! Along with Lilly in the second shot on the couch (and new Dad’s lap) are big brothers Jasper and Cuddles.  Lilly had lost her home and family due to no fault of her own. She needs an active family, is smart and gets very excited. Apparently, in the summer, she LOVES bike rides in a child bicycle trailer!

Tewksy –  “Beau” was adopted from Minpinerie almost a year ago, after having been re-homed several times.  His Mom Wendy says “At a year old he was extremely active and had quite a bit of anxiety.  After several months he began to feel secure again, and with daily exercise off leash, he calmed down and is keen to learn new things.  His favourite thing to do is to run in the woods with Boomer, one of his two siblings.  He has terrific recall and he adores his pack, and his humans.  Although he was meant to be a foster we could not imagine him fitting in as well as he did with his new pack in the country. He is our second dog from Minpinerie, and our third rescue.  “Beau” was renamed Tewksbury after the Canadian gold medalist Mark Tewksbury, and he is a huge fan of the water and loves living on a lake. As foster parents of 25 previous dogs, we knew right away that Tewky understood exactly where he fit into the pack.  Grooming his siblings, and knowing he never gets first crack at the bowl that needs licking, they appreciated having him to cuddle with and play with. For anyone wanting to foster or adopt, you are saving a life, by making room for one more dog to be rescued.  It takes a little bit of patience and a lot of commitment, but every dog has the potential to learn.  Our advise is that it takes at least a month to know how a dog fits into your home.  Tewky has overcome his anxiety, and he has so much to give back.  Rescuing for us has been so rewarding. Minpinerie is an exceptional rescue.  They go above and beyond to ensure the dogs have proper veterinary care and proper placement.  They do not discriminate by breed, contrary to their name.  I recommend them to anyone looking to adopt, and thank you for opening your heart to rescue!” Thank you to your and your family Wendy! This is wonderful!

Beau was adopted by Nancy and her family and is lucky enough to have a cabin in the USA!! Nancy says “These, like the photo of Beau and my daughter in a hammock, are at the family cabin in Vermont.  You can see from the 2nd photo that Beau and my cat, Cica, have learned to peacefully coexist. Beau loves being at the cabin, which is on a lake – but he won’t swim! He can run free there, hang out with my cousins’ dogs, look at the loons on the Lake, get confused by the jumping frogs and toads, chase squirrels, sleep in the sun on the dock….And life in Ottawa is pretty good too!” Great to hear!

SAM_6085

MaBelle’s Mom Donna proudly says “Jack is registering MaBelle as a service dog ( emotional therapy ) so he is looking forward to having her little vest and ID card. She’s a very happy loving dog. 🐶🎶 Jack walks her a lot when it isn’t too hot. She loves to play musical beds, soon as one person is awake she goes in search of someone who is still asleep to cuddle up with. Her exuberant welcome has calmed down to normal now. She’s got the routine down pat now, she knows he is coming back every chance he can get. Some nights she reminds him it’s past bedtime, lol.”

Tyson was adopted in 2015, but his owner became ill. Tyson stayed with Linda for a while and when his owner decided she could no longer care for him, Linda stepped in again, this time as a foster for Tyson. ” Seven months later, May, 2017, I adopted Tyson. This feisty little guy is very much a part of my menagerie of animals.   I have a dog sitting and dog walking business where up to 8 dogs can be staying in my home (this includes my three).   Everyone learns quickly that Tyson rules the household. Tyson is very happily sharing life with me and my other animals; Diego, 10 year old Black Lab, Bear, 12 year old Shepherd and Kittan, 9 year old calico cat.” We hoped Tyson would have a happy life – thank you!!!!!

Sadie – Fern says “On Tuesday, May 1st, it was 2 years since Sadie came home.  She is doing very well.  I thought I would give you some info on her. In July she had the surgery on her right back leg which has worked out great.  She had four months of slow activity and massage and leg exercises three times a day.  By then it was winter so her pace was slow since she still does not like the cold weather.  Once in a while she will walk on three legs for a couple steps.  I have to work on building up her leg muscles again over the summer.  We usually go for three short walks each day.   I am trying to keep her weight at 16 – 17 pounds.  At breakfast and supper time she just bounces to her dish when I get her food bag out.  Nice to see.  She enjoys being out in the yard or sunning herself on the porch now that the weather has improved.” So nice to hear this story two years later!!

Frodo – Beth says “Just wanted to update you on Primo, now known as Frodo.  He has settled in well and has been  very good  at being outside without a leash while at home. He loves his walks and as we live in the country he is able to be off leash on part of our walks through the bush as well. He has lost a significant  amount of weight and no longer looks like a haggis on legs. We have gone to obedience classes and it was obvious by his performance that he had been through this before. I needed the training however and we both passed. Frodo now has a friend from next door who he grooms when she comes to visit. Izzy is a 12 year old lab with severe arthritis in her legs.” Lovely to hear that he’s got such a great life!

Lou – Nancy says “Here’s one of my photos of Lou in bed waking in the morning he’s favorite place beside me. I want to thank you you Louise for finding Lou, my little partner. He is my shadow my constant companion. We love each other.  When we picked him that second in the car, he bonded so strongly, he knew I needed him.  To this day, my husband says I never realized a little dog could bond in a short time so strongly.  You knew best Louise, as I had called about another dog and you called back and said ‘I found your dog for you.’ Thank you Minpinerie once again.” Louise, our adoption co-ordinator says “I am so happy for you and for my little namesake Louie (Lou). Thank you for your kind words. To think this little guy was in a shelter and nobody wanted him, till he came to Minpinerie. I just know, he travelled the journey he did so he could end up in the dream destination he was meant to be. Your words warmed my heart and your photos made me tear up a little. Thank you.”  This was a little guy that was turned in for barking too much on the balcony where he spent a good part of his day alone, he was just waiting for a person to be with him, to follow, to love…

simi

Bella – Simi says “I just wanted to let you know how Bella is doing. She’s a total snuggle bug. I almost can’t take a picture of her by herself because she always wants to snuggle. Her coat is soft and thick now. She has gained a lot of trust and is the sweetest dog. She has even started barking at people! She loves every other dogs she meets and she makes us all smile even though she wakes us up like a newborn. Thank you for rescuing her.”

tbone

T-Bone – Ann says “Hello there!! T-Bone is about to experience his third Halloween with us! We’re so blessed to have adopted this senior gem who has become such a huge part of our family and hearts. My older daughter just moved out and is now looking to adopt too! Thank you for rescuing T-Bone and for all of the work you do for these adorable home-worthy pups. XOXOXO” Lovely to hear that this senior found love!!

Vanilla Bean – Megan says “I hadn’t planned on adopting when I first started volunteering for the Minpinerie Rescue… but meeting Vanilla Bean seemed to be kismet! I think she knew that we were meant for each other that first walk because she did not leave my side. As I’m writing this now she’s curled up beside me sleeping after a long day of walking, playing and swimming. Vanilla Bean truly is the perfect dog for me, and I would have never realized that if I hadn’t met so many wonderful dogs prior to her throughout the time I’ve spent volunteering for this incredible rescue. In an attempt to give her half of what she’s given me, I promise to always give her the exercise, patience and love she needs to continue to be one of the funniest, most amazing little dogs I’ve ever met.”

23

Honey – Helene says “We adopted Honey (previously named Moo Moo) in June 2017.  At first Honey did not want to share her affections with anyone except for me but now she spends lots of happy quality time with Lulu (pictured on the left) and my husband.  As her new name implies, Honey is a sweet girl who enjoys chilling-out as much as exercising.  Honey is my running partner and my good-morning sunshine.  A BIG thank you to all at the Minpinerie for saving Honey and making it possible for her to join our family!”

dory

Dory – Rebecca says “I adopted Dory (was Mattie) back in May. I lost my minpin Dutch after 17 years late last year and my current boy, Duke and I were finally ready to invite a new dog home. We took a chance on Dory and she’s truly become the pushy queen of the castle. Eats everything in sight and an absolutely love bug. Duke will never admit it but he’s happy for another trouble maker to go adventuring with.”

Frankie is a Parson Russel terrier who came to Minpinerie from the USA in 2017. He was adopted by Treena and Mark and Minpinerie alumni Buttercup and the family cats. Treena says “He loves his sweater in the cool weather. He loves snuggling with Buttercup all day, loves any kind of snack, loves digging for chipmunks and does not enjoy coming when called (when in the chipmunk ‘zone’). He throws a lot of heat, which is great in the winter on the couch or in bed!”

Diamond – on trial adoption! :)

Sweet and smart – 18 pds – 8 years – quiet and friendly

Lovely and pretty 18-pound Diamond is just 8 years young and is pretty much a little Cadillac doggie with many years ahead to be your loving and devoted pet. She has been a Mommy to many pups in a breeding situation. She is comfortable around well-socialised dogs, she settles in a crate after a short song of protest, and also vocalises for about 3 minutes when left alone, but then is quiet and clean. She is nicely housetrained and friendly (she’s not used to leash walking as she was able to walk off leash on the breeder’s property up to this point), but she is keen to learn and a wise lady. She has good recall and is quiet outside. She will be spayed end of July and ready for placement then! This pretty lady is ready to have a lovely life with you! — Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. All dogs are fully vetted and fixed, and we assess behaviour to the fullest extent possible so that our adoptions will be as successful as possible. You must fill out the application and be approved to adopt. If the specific dog in this post doesn’t sound suitable, please understand we have dogs arriving all the time, and MOST go quickly to pre-approved adopters that suit them (that is, many dogs are never posted to our website! Only when we have an overflow!). So, please fill out the application at this link to get in the pool!  Thank you and talk soon!

Manny – ADOPTED ! :)

About 5 years – obedient, loving, polite –  would like to live in the country – prefers to be the only animal but doesn’t mind other dogs who have good manners

Manny is a 5-6 year old male who has been dearly loved and was very reluctantly surrendered by his owner because they just couldn’t be home enough to give him the time that he deserves.  Manny is crate trained and is not a big barker. He is smart, obedient and responds well to basic commands. It is felt that Manny would do better in a home with no other pets and with someone who can be home most of the day. While Manny walks nicely on leash, he can be reactive, but with an experienced human hand, all will be well. Manny would benefit from a home in the country with a yard. He is the ideal pet for someone home quite a bit who would love a polite, smart and loving dog to love and walk with. Would you like to meet little Manny?

Tyson – ADOPTED! :)

About five – 12 pds – just was fixed and is doing well with housetraining – loving and cuddly but needs a strong leader – no cats, no young children – need routine and exercise – big alarm bark, too noisy for apartments

Tyson  is a  small, friendly and handsome guy who is about 5 years old, 12 pounds. This poor boy was surrendered to a shelter and was never fixed, so that means he has some dominant tendencies and needs a strong pack leader to take the lead. He was never housetrained but is learning well now. He is very very loving  and cuddly. He will dominate submissive male dogs. No young children,  no cats. He needs a routine. When visitors come, he should be sent to his dog bed and invited to visit when he is calm. He is good with visitors, but barks on their arrival. He has a big voice and is too loud for an apartment. With time in the right home, this guy will be a lovely, lovely pet with so much love to give — Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Buddy – ADOPTED!! :)

8 years old – 15 pounds – gentle and loving – nice manners – loves to cuddle – housetrained

Buddy is a  8 year- old  red Min Pin, 15 pounds, fully house trained and  gentle and very loving.  He likes to sleep in his own bed but jumps  on his human’s lap for cuddles. He was owned by a  man whose relationship split up and sadly, poor Buddy was left to try and find a new home and family – forever! —Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. SAMMY – adoption pending

sammy 1

Sammy 2

8 years and 23 pounds – loved and cared for – housetrained – great recall – quiet – not used to other dogs but would likely be fine with a quiet dog companion

Sammy  is an 8 year old  shihtzu  (23 pounds) who  for all his life has been the loved and cared for  pet  of elderly owners who unfortunately both have become seriously ill.  He has excellent  teeth and is clean in the house.  His foster Mom says he loves the garden and comes when he is called. Like  all shihtzus,  when he is frightened or  confused he  does  the air-snap thing  but if allowed to relax, very soon settles down.  His  tail wags  most  of the time  and he is quiet  in the car  and garden. Sammy has  accepted the other dogs but he  is not used to  living with other dogs.  But he would likely be fine with a quiet brother or sister. Would you like to meet his little cutie? —Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Sushi – ADOPTED :)

VERY NICE – LOTS OF ENERGY – FETCHES AND LOVES TOYS – NO SMALL KIDS – CHI MIX

Sushi is a 12lb, 5 year old minpin chihuahua mix. His foster dad writes fondly of him and says, “Sushi is such a darling sweetie! He loves loves loves to give so many kisses and to sit on your chest or lap as you watch TV. He’s very high energy and can run laps around just about anyone. He loves fetching balls and chewing all the fluff off tennis balls. Because of the rash he gets on his neck he must wear a harness rather than a collar.” Sushi is not great with his recall and so it is preferable that he be walked on leash or stay in fenced parks only. While Sushi is generally good with children, it is not recommended that he live with small children as he can nip when he gets cranky and so he needs children old enough to know how to read his body language and when to back off.  —Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. COGNAC – on trial adoption with bro Zorro!

WAS SURRENDERED WITH ZORRO – WOULD BE NICE IF THEY COULD BE ADOPTED TOGETHER – CUDDLY – GOOFY, LOVES WALKS AND CAR RIDES

Cognac is a 5.5 year old male Miniature Pinscher who weighs just over 8kg. He loves to sleep in the blankets and cuddle. He has spent most of his life with his pal Zorro and for this reason it is preferable that Cognac and Zorro be adopted together.
Cognac was surrendered by his owner due to allergies. He loves going on vigorous walks and is good on leash. He also loves going for car rides. He is especially mild mannered and gentle. His foster Mom says “He is a very affectionate coddler who likes to curl up beside you or on your lap. He’ll happily sleep with you at night. Although shy at first, he’ll quickly warm up to you. He would do well in a family where someone is home much of the time. He is happy with other dogs and would be like to be back with his former buddy. He gets along well with his foster family’s dogs and plays with them. He would be best with a companion dog. He’ll tolerate cats, ‘though he’ll hassle them a bit sometimes, just for fun. He loves his walks and rides well in the car. He especially loves to be outside in a fenced garden. He’s a very “easy care” dog. He’ll make a great friend.” —Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Zorro – on trial adoption with his buddy Cognac!!

WOULD BE NICE TO PLACE ZORRO AND COGNAC TOGETHER, AS THEY ARE BUDDIES – SNUGGLY – PROTECTIVE

With his floppy ears and wiggly body, we’re pretty sure Zorro is a dachshund minpin mix! Zorro has spent most of his life with his pal Cognac, and for this reason it would be preferable if Zorro and Cognac could be adopted together. Zorro was surrendered by his owner due to allergies, but they were very sad to give him up. He loves to play and his tail whips eagerly with excitement when there is a squeaky toy around. Zorro likes to sleep in bed under the covers and loves snuggling up and cuddling. Like your typical Dashie, he can be protective and reactive particularly around strangers when they approach his space or territory (like the car). —Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Primo – ADOPTED!

22 POUNDS BUT SHOULD BE ABOUT 14 –  DAPPLED COAT – ABOUT  7 YEARS OLD – CALM AND NICE – GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS AND STRANGERS – NOT SURE ABOUT CATS – LOVES TO STAY WITH YOU AND LOVES THE CAR – NICE BOY

Primo is a handsome dachshund mix. His gray is because of his dapple coat! He has a calm and happy nature.  We think Primo had the good life  for some time. He seems very used to driving in the car looking out of the driver’s window from his perch on the driver’s lap, good at the vet’s office, likes to sleep on a pillow at your head in bed! He’s used to going for walks but something happened (his previous owner got ill??) and those walks stopped and he gained weight. Indeed, he weighs 22lb and need to lose 8 or 10 of those! He is becoming more active by the day. He is a loving little guy, spends time at your feet, good recall, happy with the other dogs and with men, women, older children and  strangers, quiet and housetrained. Not sure about cats, but likely fine. He has been someone’s much-loved pet and was very frightened in the shelter before he came to us. We would love to see him in his loving and quiet forever home getting on with his little life. ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Sassy – ADOPTED!!! :)

7 YEARS OLD, ABOUT 12 POUNDS – LOVES CUDDLING AND YOUR COMPANY ABOVE ALL – SO MUCH LOVE TO GIVE – LOVES WALKS – WOULD DO WELL WITH NO OTHER DOG OR ANOTHER CALM DOG

Dear Sassy was with Minpinerie before – she was adopted and very much loved and lived with another little dog (male chi) to whom she bonded really well, they used to curl up together at night, but the owner got quite ill and could not take care of her anymore, so she was surrendered so we could find her a home where another loving person can open their heart and their home to her. She is a puppy mill survivor, she cannot stand to be contained, so she should not be crated. She loves to be with her people. Miss Sassy is a lovely little 7 year-old MinPin. She has had a tough life, and she so much love to give and wants nothing more than to be with her human and to be snuggled and loved back. Walks are one of her favourite things to do and she is pretty good on leash. She has lots of energy and she might not come back in an off-leash situation. Sassy loves to sleep under blankets as a true Minpin does but she has also learned to enjoy curling up in a bed in front of the fireplace. Wants to have a sweater on before she goes outside to do her business, especially once it gets dark.  She has had a hernia fixed near her bladder and she is now starting to learn that she can hold her urine more easily than before and with frequent trips outside, housetraining is pretty much good again. Her foster Mom lets her outside frequently and working on learning the words “Sassy go pee”. One thing that Sassy doesn’t like is to be closed in; she has spent too many years trapped in a cage and it causes her a lot of stress. There are not many teeth left in her mouth but she does deal with a few kibble with her soft food at meal time. She has some insecurity about food, and will steal treats if she can get away with it and has a bit of food aggression, but it is easily dealt with.  Her foster Mom says “I think that Sassy could be an only dog as long as her person is with her for most of the day.  She might benefit from being with a calmer, older dog or someone her own age. She is a wonderful little dog with tons of love and laughter to provide anyone willing to finish her housetraining.”———Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Watson – on trial adoption!

5 YEARS OLD – 16 PDS – PLAYFUL AND CONFIDENT – LOVES TO CUDDLE – NO OTHER DOGS – NO SMALL CHILDREN  – SMART AND ACTIVE

This sleek, regal little guy is Watson, a 16 lb 5 year-old MinPin. He’s funny, in perpetual motion, oozes confidence and enjoys brisk interactive games (fetch the ball, hide and seek). He’s energetic (Watson will sometimes tear through the house for no apparent reason), has a  prancing gait, is assertive and needs enough exercise and activities to keep him busy. He demands cuddling and often must be surgically removed from your lap. He loves comfort, burrows under any blanket and loves to snuggle deep under the covers with you at night. Watson is your typical ‘Min Pin’ – he’s territorial and makes a keen watchdog accompanied by vocal threats towards any stranger coming to the door. Small creatures (squirrels, cats, birds) are chased with determination. When left alone (he’s only been left for 4 hours, beyond that hasn’t been tested), the neighbour has reported that she can hear him bark at the children playing outside and at cats/squirrels strolling into the backyard. Outdoors, he must be kept on a leash (no recall) or in a securely-fenced area at all times. He loves to go for walks but still needs to master leash walking as he thinks he’s Master King Pin. We need a home for him with no other dogs or young children. Not sure about cats. Watson becomes dominant towards dogs, especially larger dogs. Watson is smart and very trainable, learns quickly but has a mind of his own. He is an assertive, strong-willed lap dog and will require a confident owner who can take charge, spend time with him and provide him with some training, cuddles and love. He will love you back unconditionally! ———Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Caramel – ADOPTED!

9 MONTHS OLD – NEEDS HOUSETRAINING – NEEDS DAILY GROOMING – FRIENDLY AND QUIET – NO KIDS UNDER 12 – NEEDS A DOGGY COMPANION

Caramel is about 9 months old. We are looking for a suitable home with an owner who will housetrain him and has no kids under 12. Minpinerie does not encourage or approve of dogs as gifts or surprises – dogs are  a lifelong commitment and there must be a meet and greet with potential owners before we grant a trial adoption. Xmas time is a bad time to bring in a puppy with all the activity, so we may choose to postpone trial adoption until after Christmas unless we feel the applicant is very suitable and is home to housetrain him (not gone all day, we don’t want him crated) and is fully committed to this dog. He was surrendered by a family that did not understand a dog’s needs and we don’t want him in that situation again. We don’t know about how he is with cats, but another dog close in age but more mature would be good to teach him manners. Apartments probably ok as he’s quiet, but Caramel is not housetrained. He is a delightful friendly baby, quick to learn and obedient, comes when he is called,  loves to play with the other  dogs and be with his person..he would love to ride  in a truck with someone all day  as he is very person orientated. He sits for treats. He has  fine “maltese” hair that will need daily combing  and he  was  professionally groomed and tolerated  it very well.  He sleeps cuddled close to his human. We want the right home for this little chap, and if that sounds like you, fill out an application please. ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Sophie – darling girl who needs an active life!

2 YEARS OLD – 20 PDS – OLDER KIDS OK – NO CATS – ACTIVE OWNER NEEDED – SPUNKY GIRL – NEEDS A DOGGIE BROTHER OR SISTER

This is Sophie! She is a smart, beautiful and active girl who is looking for a playful dog buddy and an active owner with no kids or cats. She is a 2 year-old Minpin mix, 20lbs, spunky, vocal and lovely. She is fearful of children, they move too fast for her, so only older respectful children and no cats. She needs a detached home with yard and a physically active owner who will run and walk her to release energy, so a big fenced yard would be great, but she would still need lots of exercise in the dog park or jogging or both! She would very much like to have a doggie companion – at her foster home she has been playing and playing with a young male her size, running miles together in the yard. She is reactive with strangers, cats and some dogs she meets on walks, but with an experienced owner in the right home, this lovely girl will flourish and give you years of joy and love! Do you want to meet her?  We will add more about her personality when we can, but you could also be her foster with trial adoption if you wish and get to know her yourself.  ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. All of our dogs are fully vetted and fixed, and we assess behaviour and tendencies to the fullest extent possible so that our adoptions will be as successful as possible. You must fill out the application and be approved to adopt. Chico – adopted!!! :)

2 YEARS  – 8 PDS – LIKES TOYS –  LIKES TO SIT AND SLEEP WITH  YOU  –  NEEDS HIS BODY LANGUAGE AND SPACE RESPECTED – QUIET HOME WITH NO KIDS OR OLDER KIDS ONLY

Little Chico is a very handsome small boy, two years old, 8 pounds, good recall, knows his name, housetrained. He likes toys and loves a walk and likes his people, especially to sit beside them or sleep with them in bed. He has some Chi in him, and is a cute little character,  a big dog in a small body, fearsome in his way and lets everyone know if  something is happening, but does not sit and yap. He likes to snuggle when he knows you. He is possessive of  his bed and needs his space respected – before he came to us at Minpinerie, he was frightened by being kept in a crate  and when he is frightened, he  growls. So he needs to be respected,  so we cannot have him with small children who would not leave him alone. He would probably be fine  in an apartment,  only alarm barking. A quiet home with respectful older children or no kids would be best. He loves to go outside,  completely housetrained, loves a  walk. Chico needs an experienced  owner  who can read his body language  and know when to leave him be and let him come to you in his own time. He loves treats  and his food  and  allows you to pick him up in a  blankie and will snuggle into the blankie…almost as  if  he  has  been hurt when picked up, but trusts that he won’t be hurt in the blankie.  Chico is reluctant to wade into the foster home pack but is starting to warm up to being with a few of them at times. So he might very well get used  to a dog friend  in time or a quiet cat for company, but Chico may relax better and prefer a quiet home with no other dogs or cats. Can you offer the right forever home for this little cutie-pie?  ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. All of our dogs are fully vetted and fixed, and we assess behaviour and tendencies to the fullest extent possible so that our adoptions will be as successful as possible. You must fill out the application and be approved to adopt. Heeeeere’s Sammy! – ADOPTED!

QUITE AND SWEET  – LOVES TO BE PETTED – RIPS AROUND WITH OTHER DOGS – LIKES CATS – GOOD WITH STRANGERS AND KIDS – GENTLE AND POLITE

Sammy is a dear little soul who was surrendered to us because his family no longer had time for him. He loves his people and would like to just have someone to love and to love him. His foster Dad says Sammy would do well in a house with other dogs, and adores cats, and with older children. He is secure in himself and polite and does very well when meeting new people. “He loves to play and is full of energy. In the yard with my dogs, he goes crazy. They run around trying to catch one another at super speeds. It is a blast to look at them go. Indoors, he loves to play with toys, especially plush ones, which he throws and runs after. He loves to cuddle and to be petted. It’s very sweet. He very seldom barks. He loves to sleep with me in bed, over the covers at my feet. He has had no accidents in the house. When he needs to go out, he will stare at you and the sneeze!” We have been told Sammy is 13, but with his activity level and his looks, we are checking his age as he seems younger. Overall, Sammy is a great family pet, gentle and happy,  playful and active, snuggly and polite, good recall, good in car. His teeth have been cleaned. He just loves people and other dogs and cats and he’s a gentle dear who would like to find his last home. Could that be with you?  ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. All of our dogs are fully vetted and fixed, and we assess behaviour and tendencies to the fullest extent possible so that our adoptions will be as successful as possible. You must fill out the application and be approved to adopt. Beau – adopted!!! :)

GREAT OFF LEASH – LOVES TO CUDDLE – LOVES THE WATER – ACTIVE AND BOUNCY – NO CATS – OLDER KIDS ONLY  –  RURAL LIFE ONLY – NEEDS PLAYMATE

Beau looks shy and a bit serious in these pictures, but this gorgeous teenager has lots of loving warmth, personality, intelligence, bounce and energy. He needs an active family he can grow up with, with lots of exercise. He is very quick to learn and would likely excel at agility class. He has some Minpin looks and behaviours (smart, active, loves to snuggle under covers) but you can see he also has something else in him. Beau would do excellent with another dog to play with and is perfect for a rural setting, where he is being fostered now (he is too reactive on leash in an urban setting and is quite strong when he decides to pull. He is afraid of traffic, especially anything bigger than a car and any loud noises. And Beau has too much energy for an apartment.). Good recall, good off leash so can go for hikes and at the dog park such as Bruce Pitt! Beau loves to run. He hasn’t had much chance to do that, but it’s one of his favourite things. He would be a lovely jogging companion. He likes to run after the ball and is learning to bring it back. He is about 25 lbs and may grow a little more. Beau was surrendered to us because of illness in the family. (In late November, we sent him on trial adoption and the family loved him, but he stressed out the family cat by chasing him all the time to the extent that this family was heartbroken, but had to return Beau to us.)  He likes kids but is a little over rambunctious and can scare them by jumping up so we want a home with no kids or kids over 10. He loves to cuddle and be held, loves lots of affection. If you are looking for a charmer who can go running with you and play with you and cuddle you for many years, then Beau is the sweet mutt for you! ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Phil and Su adopted Taz on February 24th of this year.(he’s the one in the red collar). “He fit right into our little pack of Coco (cute little girl beside him on the couch), and the two Siamese cats Spencer & Elmer. He is great company for all of us even the cats.   We would like to thank all of you at Minpinerie for all the work you do for these very deserving little creatures and thank you for bringing them into our lives. P.s. Coco is also from the Minpinerie. We got her 2 1/2 years ago.”

Tom and Sharon say “We are so overwhelmed with our little Tripod Spencer, we kept his name.  He was rescued from Tenneesee and thru Minpineerie we adopted him in early Feb. 2017.  H is so well behaved sleeps at least 11 hrs per night.  Loves the companship of both large and small dogs..What an addition after losing our 2 shepherds. Our vet informs us he was born without the missing leg.   You would not even know the way he runs jumps etc. Thank you.”

Archie (was Shorty) adopted March 2017. Krystyna says “Adopting Archie is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. He is such a sweet, funny dog and I couldn’t be happier that he is part of my life. Archie arrived at my house on the coldest day in March from Tennessee. He has made himself at home. I’m also fortunate to be able to bring him to work with me, he even has his very own office chair! Archie is the perfect office dog. My co-workers adore this cutie as much as I do. Thank you so much to the team at Minipinerie for rescuing Archie and always being available to answer all my questions!”

Renee calls Romeo (originally Romo) “my little bundle of love. I started fostering Romeo in October 2016, he is so kind, loving, playful and very energetic for a senior dog! However, unbeknownst to me and the agency, Romeo had some medical issues. They culminated in December 2016 when he spent 3 nights at the hospital with possible pancreatitis, an inflamed liver and sludge in his gallbladder. Those were easily the saddest 3 days of my life, but with the help and support of the Minpinerie, he made it through. I knew then that I wanted to spend as much time as I could with my little man! He has been adopted since February 14, 2017 (romantic, I know). Romeo goes everywhere with me, including the Pride Parade most recently. He is the best decision I ever made.”

Nikki and her family adopted Kevin (formerly Odie). “As you can see he fits right in. He sleeps under our covers with us and is forever in my shadow. He’s been a wonderful addition and he has changed so much over the last 6 months. He’s less skiddish and yappy now. He’s learning to trust that people coming and going from the house are safe. Here he is with his new haircut. He is also seen here with his new fur brother Lloyd our St. Bernard.”

Paco was adopted by Michel and his family and is now called Skipper “because he has a bit of a skip when he walks as a result of luxating patella.  He’s come a long way, Kentucky to Ottawa and now to our home.  He enjoys his daily walks and snuggling with us on the couch.  He loves to sit in the sun but does not like the cold.  He’ll definitely appreciate our time in Florida this winter.”

Minpinerie volunteers Treena and her hubby adopted Franklin (was Rascal) in September 2017, originally from Kentucky. He is their second ‘Kentucky Special.’ “Frankie is a dream. Great with the cats, great off-leash, playful and sweet, and throws a lot of heat in bed! Just a big puppy and is learning his manners. He has had a hard time over the past two weeks winning a place in Buttercup’s heart, but finally he has done it. They are now playing well together and she’s getting over her loss of her beloved Teddy with his help. We are thankful for this little doll and look forward to laughing at him and snugging with him for years to come.”

Kit – beautiful, small loving boy – likely best as only dog

Beautiful and small   –   1 year and 8 pounds  –  cuddly and joyful   –  loves to be on your lap  –   no apartments   –   no other dogs would be preferable  –  owner jealous

Kit is such a beautiful small and affectionate boy. He needs to put on a bit of weight, but his fur is super-glossy and sleek, and he has powerful jumping muscles.  His foster Mom says “Kit is very much a typical minpin, searching for (and demanding) his own person, and a lap to lie on.  He is vocal, not really barky, but if we go away (even downstairs to the basement) he starts yowling and howling.  He doesn’t want to go down the stairs (even though they are carpeted), so he whimpers and cries until someone goes up to carry him down. I don’t think he would be suited for an apartment because of his noise. He loves to be around people, follows us around, doesn’t want to be alone.  He enjoys exploring the backyard, and playing with toys.  Kit is loving and affectionate, leaps and leaps asking to be picked up.  He is happy and joyful, curls up beside me in a doggie bed while I am working, very pleasant little boy.  I think he would prefer to be an only dog, though, as he is jealous of attention being paid to another dog. He may also not be ideal for smaller children, as he might growl or nip if he is jealous of them. But for his owner in the right home, a wonderful loving and beautiful boy.”   ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. late 2016 and 2017 Memorials

Suzanne has adopted two Minpins from Minpinerie and remembers them here. “Cora was for my mom and dad, who were moving in with me. That was over 6 or 7 years ago. And then I adopted little Louis 4 years ago. Sadly both have passed away. Cora such a sweetheart and a great comfort to my mom and dad. She had kidneys issues and really bad arthritis and we had to eventually make the gut wrenching decision to euthanize her as she was in more pain than we could control. Louis was my baby, I miss him every day. I had never lost a dog so young. Louis had constant urinary tract infections and was often on antibiotics. [After much vetting, we lost him] He was such a great spirit and a lovely soul.”

Teddy was not a Minpinerie dog, but was the best friend of Minpinerie adoptee Buttercup, both owned by Minpinerie volunteer Treena and her hubby. “Teddy our beloved husky mix was 13.5 when he passed in July. He was very strong until his last few days. He guarded this property and me, with his few German Shepherd genes. He played and retrieved sticks and his ball in the water and out, with his Mom’s Black Lab genes. He was talky and smart from his Husky genes. He and Buttercup were best buddies and wrestled and walked the forest paths together and loved the local gravel pit adventures. We and Buttercup are missing him terribly. He was a brave, funny, happy, smart, handsome and loving boy who was a precious addition to our lives and we were blessed to know him. We love you Teddy, forever and ever.”

Dianna says “I adopted a beautiful little female min-pin in 2006, Savannah.  She passed away in December 2016. She was a sweet, sweet little thing, prone to barking and it took her about 6 months to settle in a realize this was her forever home.  I miss her big personality every day but she ended up in a great home for 10 years of her life. She loved nothing better than curling up in a blanket in the sun. Still miss the little thing. She had a big personality for such a little one.”

A few years ago, Brent & Dawn adopted Cinnamon (was  named Red). “We are very sad to say she developed Cushings Disease. We wish to thank you [Ruth] for the time we had with her. She was the “perfect dog” for our family. I am not sure if she was a ‘typical’ Min Pin but she was the sweetest most loving and trusting dog. She was calm and quiet and wonderful with my 9 year old daughter. Everyone who met her was won over by her sweet temperament. She was my daughters best friend. She made a good watchdog because she alerted us when people came to the door but was not very ‘barky’ otherwise. You did such a wonderful job with matching us with Cinnamon that we would like to ask you to try again.”

John says “My beloved Rocky passed away on Tuesday August 29 2017. Despite have a few health issues, Cushing’s disease and being deaf, my lovely Rocky lead life and every day with a joy and happiness that most humans only dream of having. Although my little Rockstar left us on Tuesday, he will always remain in my heart and has changed me forever – making me a better person. There wasn’t a day that went by when this little guy didn’t make me laugh. Always by my side, and watching my every move (hence his nick name “the little supervisor”) Rocky never missed a beat. Although I had to let my little man go, I will always carry his memory in my heart. Love you Rocky, rest in peace.”

Lucky – ADOPTION PENDING!! :)

lucky

Easy-going and sweet   –   would love to be with at least one other dog again   –   lost one eye and has a broken tail   – about 8 or 9 and 19 lbs  –  quiet

Lucky is lucky indeed to be in Minpinerie’s care and hopefully going to have a furever home soon. Could that be with you? He arrived on Aug. 20th. Lucky is a JRT/puggle mix, 8 or 9, 19 lbs, surrendered with a large group of dogs from a sad situation in the U.S.  He was the oldest of the group and we took him! Dear Lucky only has one eye and what appears to be a break to the tail. Lucky is a very sweet and easy going dog, quiet and pretty much agreeable to anything. Housebroken, good with dogs, nice boy. He needs his luck to just hold out a little longer for someone like you to give him a chance to be your loving pet and learn how to enjoy life and have a safe home. ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. NEWS – AUGUST 2017

*****NOTE – AUGUST 28, 2017 *****

MINPINERIE BOARD DECISION

Minpinerie INC., will no longer be rescuing dogs from the U.S.

We have had a long and successful relationship with many wonderful partners in rescue in the United States and have saved hundreds of lovely dogs in the process. However,  we have come to the conclusion that, among other things,  new cross border regulations are consuming too many of our limited financial, administrative and human resources. Minpinerie’s mandate has not changed and we will continue to be dedicated to rescuing Canadian dogs, and be there for them as long as we can.  We are thankful to our foster families, adopters, donors, volunteers for the opportunity to continue to do so.

Belli – Chihuahua who will love you dearly and bond strongly

belli

LOVES his people   –    4 years old  –  cannot be with children or cats  – Chi-experienced owner preferred

Belli is 4 and LOVES his family. He will LOVE you and bond strongly to you – he is a typical Chi. 4 years old. He was surrendered by his first family because he does not like children, and he has been known to snap at them. A Chi-experienced family is preferred. He can be owner protective, has issues sharing his toys and food, not crazy about other dogs and really does NOT like cats. If you can foster Belli, please fill out the application to foster at https://minpinerie.ca/foster/ or to adopt….——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. All of our dogs are fully vetted and fixed, and we assess behaviour and tendencies to the fullest extent possible so that our adoptions will be as successful as possible. You must fill out the application and be approved to adopt. Cozmo – on trial adoption

LOVES to be by your side  –  cuddly goofball –  loves tomatoes  –   7 years and 10 pounds  –  loves toys  –  loves hikes –  loves to hunt bugs for hours in a fenced yard  –  no kids

Cozmo was passed along between several University-aged young folk and he is now looking for a permanent home. Those who have known him call him a goofy little cutie who enjoys to be as close to his person as possible. He loves to be under blankets and will sleep under the covers at his human’s feet. He will always be next to you on the couch while you watch TV or have a chat. He is very anxious about being left alone and an owner who works at home or is able to bring him to work would be ideal. Cozmo doesn’t like most other dogs and is very particular about the ones he does. No children around Cozmo!

Cozmo is full of personality. He will tell you what he wants with tiny noises, jumping up and down, and by climbing on you and giving kisses. He would be fine as an only dog or animal…He is significantly better with dogs the same size or smaller than him. Ok with cats, housebroken, loves the car. Cozmo is ok with people once he gets to know them but likes women more. He does not always respond to “come” so off-leash only in fenced areas. On leash, you must be pro-active with him and take charge as pack leader or he will be aggressive towards other dogs and sometimes men – but you’re an experienced dog owner, aren’t you? Cozmo LOVES tomatoes and duck feet. He is very good at telling time and will consequently tell you when his dinner should be served. Cozmo he loves to chase cat toys and will try his best to play with other dogs after lots of exposure. When left to his free will in a garden, this little doll will spend hours hunting for bugs, running around and pouncing on them. We REALLY want to find poor wee Cozmo his secure FOREVER and EVER permanent home. Could that be with you?? ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Ozzy – wants to dance on his hind legs for you and give you lots of kisses!

likes to stand on his hind legs!  –  loves to give kisses  –  talky  –  curious   –   follows you like a shadow  –   9 years and 19 pounds   –  energetic  –  loves games and walks   –    smart

Ozzy is 9 and 19 pounds, with lots of energy, is strong and active, shiny coat. Housebroken, makes friends with other dogs after settling down. Not sure about cats, fine with only older children as he’s strong and boisterous sometimes. Loves his walks and interactive games like tug toys, fetching a ball, etc. His foster Mom says “He is very relaxed meeting new people and warms up to them quickly. Everyone who meets him says he’s a lovely little dog. Smart and has learned basic commands and also other commands. Good to walk on retractable leash (26 feet).  I keep his leash short until we get to the open green areas, then it let him walk along and smell everything. He looks so happy high-stepping through the tall grass, and responds immediately when I let him know we’re going left or right.   Ozzy would do well in a busy household – maybe 2 or more people.  He’s intelligent, curious, energetic and needs a lot of physical and mental stimulation.  An assertive, experienced owner would be best for this guy.  He cannot be left for extended periods as he gets scared and will hurt himself in his crate. Little Ozzy was with his owner for his whole life as far as I know and has found it hard but after a couple of months he is really a changed dog – he was happier, more affectionate, sillier, what a great little guy.  I feel reassured that he will bond with his human(s) in his forever home and I think it will happen fast. Ozzy has some endearing habits – he stands up on his back legs a lot – especially when I get his dinner ready or I’ve been a way for a few hours  – he does a few twirls like a circus dog. On a walk he’s perfectly calm around bicycles, skate boards, baby strollers, cars. He’s curious, and will stand up like a meerkat if he sees something interesting, but never looks scared of anything. He’s got the typical Minpin traits – he’s a snuggle-bug a lot of the time and happy to curl up under the blanket on the sofa, gives lots of kisses – he’s a little shadow and follows you around the house and finds everything you do fascinating…he is also spunky, independent and headstrong…he’s very playful but doesn’t always know his own strength. (he’s very muscular). When I ask “Do you want to go for a walk?”  he’ll run up to me, stand up on his rear legs, plant his front paws on me and bounce off, then run to the door.  Kind of like a doggy “high-five”. He will make a wonderful little active buddy for some lucky family. ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Zackery – sweet little Chihuahua – get him while he’s still available :o)

zackery

Loves attention – cuddly – 5 years old – ideally 13-14 pounds – more to come when we know more

Zackery is a sweet 5- year old Chihuahua, 16 lbs but he will lose some weight over time! Sadly, he was surrendered in late July to a U.S. shelter because his people no longer wanted a dog. Like all Chi’s, little Zackery loves attention from adults – he looks pleadingly at people for them to give him some love with his adorable Chi eyeballs. He is agreeable with the small dogs he’s interacted with. Zackery would just love to have a new owner and sit on your lap. Would you like to meet this poor little soul who needs a home? He is ready to look into your eyes and be a wonderful part of your life. Please apply now. ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Marley – adoption pending! :)

friendly and observant – likes to stick close – 6 years old – loves car rides – ok with dogs and cats – not fond of baths!

Hi, I am Marley. I am a 6 year old shitzu, fully house-trained and I like to be where you are. I am a little shadow. I like to watch what is going on. I look serious in the pictures, but I am friendly and I like humans, and small dogs are ok and cats are ok as long as they don’t bug me. I love to travel in the car. I do not really like baths. I love to be where you are, not really too much on your lap all day or too many hugs but I like to be petted and I like to be nearby you. I am a nice little fellow. Would you like to meet me??? Please apply now! ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Buster – on trial adoption

One previous owner who died – loves attention – playful – licky – enjoys toys – 12 years – 10-15 pounds – gentle

Here is a video of Buster the cutie! Buster sadly lost his home when his owner died and the daughter turned him in to the shelter. Buster is a sweet little Chi mix, about 12. He takes a daily pill for his heart. Nicely housetrained and loves attention and is playful. Here are comments from his foster mom in the US: “Buster only had one owner in his life. He may still be missing him but he has come out of his shell quite a bit. This is all a big change for him. He is doing good. He has been quiet but loves my attention and licks my hand. When I stop petting him he reaches out and pulls my hand back towards him. He whimpers occasionally but is playful too with his stuffed and squeaky toys. A lovely dog.” If you need an affectionate and quiet friend and you’d like to give Buster a second chance at a happy life, please apply now.—Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Lemon – adoption pending!

Blind Lemon Annie (any jazz fans out there?) is an excellent little girl for a peaceful home with people willing to give a little extra love and care to an affectionate dog with a special need. This small dog will thrive in a home where there is plenty of love. Lemon is a born cuddler who loves her people, she is happy to share lots of time, a bed and blanket with her trusted humans, and enjoys time together on frequent walks and car rides. Lemon is 5-6 year old female 10-pound Chichuahua/Minpin mix. Lemon had surgery to remove an injured eye and has very limited vision in the other (there are no ongoing issues, medications or special treatment as a result of surgery.) This may cause her to be nervous in hectic situations , or jump at the shadows that surprise her, so she would be happiest in a quiet home without the chaos of a large family, children and/or rambunctious pets. She is good with dogs, (but no pushover!) and she would do well with another calm dog about her age and size. Lemon needs supervision to do stairs so a one story home would be ideal.  A fenced yard is a must and Lemon must not be left outside alone unsupervised. Lemon can be vocal when left alone, so apartment living is unlikely to suit her (or the neighbors!)  Her ideal situation would be with an owner who is retired or works from home. Lemon is used to pee pads and to going outside to do her business. She is not crate-trained. Good on leash with encouragement and confident owner. Ignores neighborhood cats while on her frequent walks and loves car rides. A special little dog who would like to meet you and find her forever family. ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. Champ – ADOPTION PENDING!!

c1

Smart – fine with dogs and cats – excellent off leash – happy – cuddly – just loves affection – 15 pounds – about 6 years old – experienced owner needed to make him feel secure

Champ is a long-legged, warm and smart cutie. We just know this beautiful, smart and sensitive boy will find the right family and they will be so happy they gave him a chance. Champ is extremely friendly and cuddly with his family. It is so much fun to see him happy with his tail madly wagging. You will also smile when you see a very happy Champ run off leash – he needs his two walks/runs a day and is so light and lovely on his feet and does not go very far from you. When you give/show Champ the affection he deserves he rewards you with a look that is filled with so much love. If he wants you to acknowledge him, he will paw gently. If Champ is not sitting beside you on the couch, he will be sleeping on the back of the couch. Champ is sensitive – if you raise your voice at him, he will hang his head. Champ does not really play with other dogs, but he likes having other pets in the household. Champ gets nervous if his foster brothers play rough. For this reason his foster Mom doesn’t take him to dog parks (these dogs are not in his pack so he will nip at them; trying to make them stop). Champ must be socialized with other dogs slowly until he realizes that this new dog is not a threat to him or others. Champ ignores cats. For his personal business, Champ does not yet realize he needs to ask to be let out and so he needs to be taken out on a regular basis, every four hours. Older respectful children would be fine, he is good loose in the house, loves to sleep under covers, good with visitors after a warm-up period, no food or toy guarding. Champ can be aggressive to other dogs when walking him on a leash, so an experienced dog owner is recommended. He bit a person when he thought one of his foster dog siblings was being threatened, so visitors to the home need to be managed properly – no problem for an experienced dog owner. Great in the car. Smart and very good with his basic commands. Would you like to meet this lovely boy? He would like to meet you. ——Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Rainbow bridge update mid-2017

Here are some recent remembrances sent our way…

Celine and Hubby adopted Sheba many years ago. She said recently, addressing Minpinerie founder Ruth: “If memory serves, you were the lady who came to my home in Cornwall to show us some dogs  so many years ago. We took in Sheba a lovely girl who had had a tough start in life in Ohio. She was chubby and loved my two boys right from the first minute, my husband, she took a while to warm up to.  I wanted to let you know that she has been an important part of our family these past ten years. She witnessed our children growing into young adulthood and was our constant friend. She tobogganed with the kids, came camping with us and joined in our visits to grandma’s. As dogs tend to do, she became a senior all too quickly and we had to make the difficult decision to let her go and end her suffering yesterday. My sorrow over her loss had me checking out the Minpin rescue website and didn’t I see your name beside another dog, Phoenix, I think. I just had to write and let you know how your work with dogs made such an incredible difference in our lives. Bless you and your efforts to find the right families for your charges. I’m sure there are hundreds of stories out there like ours that you are a part of.”

Kat and her family adopted Miko (formerly “Big Mac”) back in 2007. “MinPinerie pulled him from the euthanasia list at the Quebec SPCA where he’d been languishing since being surrendered by his previous owners. Although Miko was already seven years old when I adopted him, he was still full of life, love and energy! Miko was a dear companion over the past decade we shared together. He was endlessly giving with his love and affection – whether over hikes through the woods, strolls around the neighbourhood or cuddles on lazy days. My family is saddened by Miko’s recent passing but we take solace in the fact that we had a long and happy near decade together, during which time Miko came into his own and transformed from a terrified, anxious and neglected rescue to a well-adjusted, cuddly, content and beloved fur-baby. Deepest thanks to MinPinerie for its tireless commitment in saving these sweet dogs and especially for bringing Miko into our lives! Again, many thanks for your kindness and commitment in bringing Miko in our family and for your laudable work in establishing MinPinerie!”

New Happy Tails!!!!

HTOscar

In fall 2016, Oscar was adopted by Erin. “I can definitely say, having Oscar in my life has been the best thing that ever happened to me.  Oscar is a mommy’s boy who doesn’t like to leave my side. Whenever it’s bedtime, or when I take a nap, he will crawl underneath the covers and press himself against me.  He loves going to Bruce Pit and has no problem wrestling with the bigger dogs. Currently I’m taking a class to become a certified dog trainer and I get to bring Oscar to class with me! He has mastered sit, lay down, stay. fetch, shake a paw and he knows clicker commands.  I’m hoping down the road to make Oscar a therapy dog. Thank you for bringing Oscar into my life!”

HTPhoebe

In spring 2016, Phoebe was adopted by Mara. “Phoebe came to me on Mothersday this year as a foster from Ohio. She completely stole my heart when I opened the door of her crate and she stepped into my arms. I also have a nine year old Laszo Apso and was a little worried about bringing in another dog.  However after about 2 days of sniffing and a bit of growling they completely have accepted each other and are best friends. Phoebe is very affectionate and quiet. She hardly ever barks at all. She is a digger. I have about 20 holes in my front yard to prove that. My life has greatly improved since she came into my life and I think that I have improved hers as well. Minpinerie Ottawa has been great and very caring and helpful. What a great job you all are doing.”

HTskip

In late 2017, Skip was adopted by Jessica & Alex. “Things are going great, we went to Bruce Pit yesterday and he did very well off leash. He is warming up to Alex faster than we could have predicted as well. I am attaching pictures. This Wednesday he starts obedience classes for 6 weeks at Petsmart. Thanks again for everything!”

HTTigars

Ti-Gars et Ti-Loup were adopted by Anick in 2016! “On est arrivé… c’était stressant la route mais on est tellement bien maintenant. On est crevé mais on a tout ce qu’on a besoin ici, même des lits dans toutes les pièces ! On a bien mangé aussi, mais j’ai mangé trop vite et j’ai vomi… pas grave (Ti-Gars). On a fait 2 tours de la maison dans l’herbe… pleins de senteurs nouvelles. Et on a pas fini de découvrir la maison. On continue demain, trop fatigues là. On est bien ensemble, on ne se lâchera jamais maintenant.” (We will add that these guys were adopted a long time ago but returned to us years later through no fault of their own, and we ARE SO HAPPY THEY HAVE FINALLY FOUND A FOREVER HOME! THANK YOU ANICK!!)

HTHutch

Hutch was adopted by Karen and Dean in late 2016. “I just wanted to send a little update and let you all know that Hutch is settling in with us fabulously! We love him to bits and are really enjoying him and have started doing a bit of training. He is sitting on my lap as I write this! Thank you to everyone who had a part in Hutch’s journey and took care of him before we came along. If I have missed sending this to anyone, please let everyone at the Minpinerie know we are very grateful. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to adopt Hutch, we really appreciate it.”

HTAudrey and Silvia

In August 2016, Audrey was adopted by Silvia! “I still remember Audrey’s picture in Minpinerie’s website. I fell in love with that face but we were doubting if she would be my perfect match and Louise proposed I try her, and of course I fell for her. It took a bit longer for her to bond with me, but oh boy, I wanted and still do, to make the rest of her life as happy as I can. She still dislikes dogs getting on her way when we walk, but she came a long way with people. She is curious, cuddly, stays 9 hours by herself and the house is the same way I left it (she doesn’t clean though 🙂 She is my baby, my companion, my personal trainer. Without her I would come back from work and not go out till next morning.  We were worried for her health but after detailed lab tests, everything came back normal. I thank Louise for her patience and help and the rest of the volunteers at Minpinerie. Adopting Audrey was almost a life saver for her and for me.”

Huck2

In July 2016 Adrian was adopted by Jim and Heidi and renamed Huck. “We have three rescue pins and all have their own story. Fyn was rescued from Ohio nearly three years ago and Jack who we  took in on New Year’s Eve last year.  Huck is the baby and runs the house we call him our brat as he is always the instigator when something has happened. Fyn is our nervous nelly but keeps Huck in shape with their constant play inside and out. Jack is laid back and a snuggle bug. All in all a busy pack we have. Thanks again for all the work you do and an extra hats off to Deb who has worked so hard to get us our little angels.”

HTsadie

In May 2015, Sadie was adopted by Fern! “I thought I would let you know how she is doing now.  The winter was a little hard on Sadie.  She was not used to the cold but I am proud of how she survived the winter.  She would go outside to the bathroom and be back in within a couple of minutes.  If the temperature was around zero I would put her coat on and take her for a short walk.  Twice at the beginning of the winter I had to carry her the last half block home.  Her feet were too cold.  Tried little booties but they came off most of the time.  Her feet are so small.  The last couple of months she did not mind the snow and actually liked tromping thru it if it wasn’t deep. I was worried about her gaining weight when she wasn’t out walking but watched her diet carefully.  I would like her to loose another 2 to 3 lbs.  Her legs are so tiny to be holding all the weight.  She does have good muscles in her legs now.  Now that the weather has warmed up we go for at least 2 walks each day and she gets lots of exercise running around in the back yard. In the morning we have a pet time before she goes for her morning walk.  She is still stubborn.  If she does not want to do something, she will not do it.  I have had to carry her in the house several times when she would not come in. Thank you so much for letting me adopt Sadie.  Thank you also to all the volunteers who made Sadie’s trip to Ottawa possible.  She is a real treasure.”

Jake was adopted by Allan in 2016! Jake says “Today, I celebrated my first birthday in Nova Scotia.  My Dad made me a special doggie birthday cake. I must be special for my Dad hates to cook. Our first year together has been fantastic.  Neither of us can imagine life without each other. We are like 2 peas in a pod. When we go for our long walks three times a day, everyone knows me. Other then dog owners usually cross the street when they “hear me”. However, I have made quite a few new friends with the other dogs on my street and we get along just great.  I just want to show any strangers ( new dogs) that although I may be vertically challenged, I am still a doberman like those other big shots. My dad tells people that I am a doberman trapped in a Chihuahua like body. Anyway, thank you both (Louise and Ruth) for rescuing me and matching me with my new Dad. You both will always be my guardian angels!!!”

Remy – on trial adoption!! :) Young friendly smartypants

19 (17) Male Brown Chi Mix - many bite marks

Say hello to Remy! A smart, loveable, friendly boy who is going to make his forever owner very happy. He’s a Chi mix, only 4 years old and about 7 pounds. Remy’s history is hard to hear. He arrived into a local shelter very chewed up, apparently having had to fight hard for any food he was able to get. He was covered in puncture wounds both fresh and scabbed, but he has healed up nicely and he has been doing well in foster care for a little while now. He is so good with humans! His foster Mom has found him a smart and nice little guy who bonds very nicely to his person, like a typical Chi. He is a  relatively quiet little guy, increasingly outgoing & confident, sweet and affectionate. An experienced Chi owner would be preferred. We would really like to see him with someone who is home much of the day since he bonds so well, and is still a little needy clingy and unsure (no surprise with his history). He likes to follow his foster Mom closely, likes to sleep cuddled up beside her and spends as much time as he can on her lap. He doesn’t particularly like to go outside by himself but he’s getting a bit better with that. *******Remy must be in a home with NO CATS and NO SMALL DOGS, but MAY be ok with one other larger laid-back dog (no surprise with his past that he just can’t tolerate other small animals who have attacked him). He is very keen on his food and so his forever Mom or Dad should make sure he waits to be fed. So! That’s Remy’s story. In the right home, he will be just a great pet, ready to give his forever owner years of love as he receives the security and love that all pets need. Would you like to meet Remi? — Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. All of our dogs are fully vetted and fixed, and we assess overt behaviour and subtler tendencies to the fullest extent possible so that our adoptions will be as successful as possible. You must fill out the application and be approved to adopt. Enzo and Onyx – ADOPTED

twe

New to rescue, available in a few weeks after vetting is complete. Two sweet little dogs,  the more energetic little grey one Onyx is 2.5 and mellow Enzo (white) is about 5.  They can go separately or together, OK with cats, good with one or two well-behaved children over 7 who will be careful of them and not drop them, etc. Keep eye on the website for more details as their foster mom lets us know more about their temperament. Right now she says “They are an absolute joy, full of love and sweetness.” They are having some housetraining issues but hopefully all will straighten out soon and they will be neutered by end of April or early May. —- Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. PeeWee – on trial adoption! :)

Little PeeWee may be small but he has BIG personality! He is quiet, listens well, housetrained, loves cuddles, kisses and walks. He is playful and good with cats, but not really other dogs. Right now he is adjusting to a new foster home and he’s rightfully reserving the right to trust. But he is settling in well! As of the end of April, his foster Mom says “PeeWee is a spunky little dog who is learning how to be loved. He needs someone who is going to have time and patience with him. Once he warms up to you, he is a very sweet dog who loves cuddling, giving kisses and walks. He also enjoys playing with people and running around. He is warming up to people more and more everyday. He has become a little shadow of mine who listens very well and is a quiet dog. He doesn’t mind cats but PeeWee likes to be an only dog.” —- Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. King – ADOPTED!

King is a lovely, gentle little lad who was recently abandoned at a local shelter. He is now with a Minpinerie foster and is looking for a home and humans to spend his many remaining years with – could that be you? He warms up with nice tail wagging, and will rub his rear on your hand to invite a good scratch.  King is 10 years old, about 10 pounds, and great with other dogs and humans. He is a  little reserved  but  Ok with strangers. Nervous at the vet’s and had to be muzzled. Housetrained. Like all Chi’s, he is already attached to his foster Mom and loves like all chis loves me and loves to cuddle in bed. —- Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Slinky – on trial adoption! :)

Slinky – so cute with his tall notched ears! Dear well-behaved and smart little Slinky came to us when he was 1 in 2010, and was adopted by a nurse on disability who loved him dearly. Due to unforeseen circumstances, he is back with us, a 10 lb handsome black and red lad, now about 8 years old. He has many, many years ahead to be a great companion! So, this is the first time he’s been away from his first home and he would very much like to find his forever owner.

Slinky has been crated for the past year or so during the day but we don’t want that to continue in his new home and there is no need – he is housetrained but needs to go pee later at night. He would likely enjoy another dog in his new home. He squeaks for a while when left with the other dogs in his current foster home when his foster Mom has to go out, but he’s just a bit (rightly) unsettled and nervous, having never been away from his first home. In the car, like many dogs he can be excited and whimper, but he’s quiet on the way back from the dog park. He loves his walks and dances around when the leash comes out.  He is easygoing, loves to cuddle and be on a lap and sleep close in bed. He is quiet outside in the fenced backyard with good recall. No bolting.

So Slinky is a cuddler and easygoing, with no aggression and he can be picked up with no problem. With other dogs he is fine, not possessive or competitive. At feeding time, he only gets his bowl when he is quiet. He is nice meeting new dogs and good with strange humans too!

Overall, he is just a perfect boy, but Slinky needs his daily exercise, two walks or runs. Going off-leash in a park or jogging with you would be ideal, or several long walks and play sessions a day. He would likely love agility classes. We aren’t sure yet about how he is off-leash, but it would be great to see him tear around daily in a dog park or safe area. A beep collar (electric collar that has the beep and vibration function) might work well if his recall is not good in a big safe area like a dog park, but his foster Mom suspects he would stay around off leash in a safe area.

Does dear little Slinky sound like a good match for you and your situation? He would like to find his forever home soon and start bonding with his new Mommy or Daddy! The first step is to fill out the application and you will be contacted. —- Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Phoenix – gorgeous boy who is cuddly, and really, really smart and can go off-leash

Smart – cuddly and happy – observant and well-behaved – needs quiet home – no kids – experienced owner – excellent on/off leash

Phoenix is a sweet brown-eyed gem in need of a calm environment with an understanding and experienced owner and no children in the home.  He is smart, knows his basic commands, fully housetrained, and after he knows you, cuddly and playful. Just a perfect boy with an owner who is experienced. Phoenix understands if you would like him to leave a room, such as the kitchen and go lie down. He loves to go for walks and once a sense of trust has been built, he is excellent on and off leash, coming when called and never straying too far from his person. He is very good with other dogs, both in the home and on walks. He is also good with people when on walks, at times a little wary, but not aggressive. He is quite timid with strangers and can bark. It is important that visitors leave him alone and let him come in his own time. Like most dogs, he barks when the doorbell rings. He is very good at sleeping in his bed, although he may also like to sleep with a trusted person. Phoenix is comfortable and well-behaved in the car. He listens well and should he move to a place you prefer he not go, a simple redirection is all that is needed.  He is very observant, understands when you are preparing to leave the house and of course, he is always hoping to leave with you, but he is able to stay comfortably at home and is excited when you return. In a family environment, it is important for all members to participate in feeding and walking Phoenix so that he doesn’t bond with just one individual.  No children can be in Phoenix’s home and if children visit, the situation must be supervised carefully or Phoenix should be allowed to go to a quiet safe place. When Phoenix is over-excited, anxious or does not understand what is going on, he reacts in fear and could try to bite. His new owner needs to be an experienced dog owner who understands how to proactively prevent these situations and deal quickly and effectively with any errant situations that arise, who will build trust with Phoenix and never let this dear boy down. Give him a quiet consistent home, and over time, he will reveal the best of himself, which is a wonderful, truly loyal and loving friend. —- Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. Anna – ADOPTED!!! :)

27745592632_38e57554f7_m

Dear little Anna is looking for a happy ending to her life! Could you be the one to give it to her? She had many years of love to give you! This dear girl is about 9 and is small, about 9.5 lbs. She was saved from a puppy mill where she was confined for many, many years and never had a normal life. After months in a loving Minpinerie foster home, she has finally learned what it is to have a normal life and she has blossomed. She is pretty much completely housetrained (puppy mill dogs are confined), really affectionate and enjoying walkies. Her foster Mom says “Anna is a darling, gentle girl. We can lift and handle her easily. She loves to be outside. She quiet, and just needs a quiet loving home. She readily comes for attention now and is quite affectionate. She walks very nicely on a leash. We think she must have lived in a home in her early life. Anna LOVES to wrap herself up in a comforter so we cannot see any Anna at all. She is fine with other dogs.” Anna was on trial adoption in late April, but due to potential owner health conditions, she is back with us. Would you like to meet this sweet pretty girl, who was robbed of a normal life for so long? She would like to meet you! —- Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie dog. Pinto – ADOPTED!!! :)

Pinto has just been adopted in time for Canada’s 150th Birthday! She is with a newly-retired active couple and jogs with her new Mom 5 to 8 km every morning – EXACTLY WHAT PINTO needs! She gets along with their other little dog and has even been ok left alone in the house for short periods, only once getting into pastries left on the dining room table. This is absolutely wonderful match. We are soooo so pleased for her. Louise, our adoption coordinator says “I want to thank everyone that spent time with her or for her, especially the families that fostered her and tried so hard …Ruth likes to say these little dogs often travel the journey they are meant to travel so they can finish in the home they are meant to have, so all of you have been meant to be part of her journey. She was meant to learn something from all of you so she could get to her final destination.”

Pinto (former name MooMoo) is 3 yrs. old and 13 lbs. She was found as a stray. Her foster Mom says she is extremely well-behaved, learns quickly and listens well when spoken to, and is playful and cuddly, just an excellent dog. Pinto was recently adopted, but is back because she could not get along with the cat. Her family really tried to make things work and were heartbroken at having to return her. So, no cats in the home! Pinto LOVES to play with other dogs but is a dominant female who does not like to share her owner and would do well as an only dog or with another relaxed dog who is not at all worried about sharing an owner. She does not like to be left alone, but is doing better after some crate training. She looooves people and would be a great dog for someone who has a dog-friendly workplace. Along with no cats, a home with a securely-fenced yard is a must. PINTO MUST HAVE A SECURE FENCED YARD BECAUSE SHE IS A BOLTER. She is good with kids, but YOU MUST ENSURE THAT A VISITING OR RESIDENT CHILD DOES NOT PICK HER UP AND DROP HER, OR OPEN A DOOR (because she would be gone in an instant, and then lost, hit by a car, etc. We have had several close calls with her bolting and almost being killed. This is a very serious thing). Would you like to meet little Pinto? — Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie Rescue Group dog. We are based in the Ottawa area. All of our dogs are fully vetted and fixed, and we assess overt behaviour and subtler tendencies to the fullest extent possible so that our adoptions will be as successful as possible. You must fill out the application and be approved to adopt. Tyson – ADOPTED!!!!!!

Wonderful Tyson was adopted from Minpinerie about 18 months ago, but his Mom had to bring him back to us because she is sick and cannot care for him. We’d really like to find this nice boy a really loving last forever home. He is great on walks, housetrained, good with other pets, a confident dog, but loves to lie with his human. About 9 yrs old and 9.7 kg. Tyson is special needs. He is a controlled diabetic. From his mom who surrendered him: Ty is a wonderful little gentleman,  He is not the kind of dog to run up to any person and look for attention but he’s very cuddly with his person. He is very easy to take care of and walk on leash and he can be taken to an off leash park with confidence. Good with other dogs and pets. As an older dog, he is quite content to spend a good part of his day in his bed or cuddled up with his person, but he is instantly alert if he senses there may be a walk in the offing! He is not a dog that plays with toys or such: he is content with quiet activities.   Tyson is special needs. He is a controlled diabetic.Would you like to meet this wonderful boy?  -–Thank you for your interest in a Minpinerie dog. All Minpinerie rescue group dogs are fully vetted and fixed.
